In this blog, our Finished Inspirations team is breaking down how to DIY your very own wooden sign.

What you’ll need:

• Wood round
• Sandpaper or sander
• Stain or paint of your choice
• Personalized vinyl decal
• Transfer paper
• Clear urethane
• Sponge brush
• Ribbon and bows
• Staple gun

The steps:

1. Sand your wood round for a smooth finish.
2. Stain or paint the wood round with your color preference, and let it completely dry.
3. Purchase your choice of vinyl decal designs or print and cut your own!
4. Cut the transfer paper slightly larger than your decals, and apply the sticky side of the transfer paper on top of your decal. Press firmly to ensure the decals adhere to the transfer paper.
5. Once your wood round is dry, gently peel off the backing of your decals.
6. Ensure your wood round is free of any dirt or debris!
7. Measure and determine where you want your decal to be placed.
8. Slowly and firmly place and press your decal onto the wood round to avoid any air bubbles.
9. Once firmly pressed, slowly peel back and remove the transfer paper.
10. To protect from elements, seal your design with urethane and a sponge brush. Let dry.
11. Once your seal is completely dry, secure a ribbon to the back with staples for hanging.
12. Attach bows, more ribbon, greenery, or any other 3D elements you wish to the sign with a staple gun.
13. Hang up, admire your work, and enjoy! Or wrap up for a friend to give them this holiday season!
