How to Build a Live Edge Table

Live Edge furniture is taking the design world by storm. The design incorporates wooden slabs in which the natural edges of the tree are still maintained, often including the bark. Live Edge furniture or architectural features instantly give a space a rustic feel as they incorporate breathtaking elements of the natural world to your home’s interior. The elegance of Live Edge is unmatched and has contributed to its rising popularity over the years, and we don’t see it going out of style anytime soon.

Our favorite characteristic of Live Edge furniture is its DIY-ability! Each piece of Live Edge furniture is unique and one-of-a-kind, and you can personalize yours further by choosing the right wood species and color that you want in your home. If you are ready to upgrade your space and “Do It Yourself,” we have compiled a set of directions for you to create your own Live Edge wooden table.

Once you have chosen the type of wood you want to use, you can decide which wooden boards you will utilize to create your own unique table. You’ll want to determine how big of a table you wish to build, and purchase the correct number of slabs to design a piece that is functional for your home.

For a standard-sized coffee table, we recommend choosing two connector boards (B) and two edge boards (A). Connector boards are flat on all sides and have clean edges to sit flush with the other connector boards as well as the Live Edge boards. The edge boards will be flat on all sides except for the edge which will face the exterior.

A Keyhole design makes for easy assembly of your Live Edge Table. This simple mechanism of lock-n-key design holds your boards together on the underside of your table and allows you to assemble additional connector boards in the future if you’d like.

Complete this design by choosing a base for your table that compliments your design! You can stain or epoxy the wood if you’d like to customize your piece further.
