How To DIY Your Kitchen Cabinet Moulding Installation

When it comes to sprucing up your kitchen cabinets, there are many different ways to freshen up your existing cabinetry. For a cabinet makeover, you can paint your cabinets, update the hardware on your cabinets, or sand and stain your cabinets with a new finish.

However, if you are looking to elevate your cabinets to enhance appearance and charm, we recommend installing crown moulding to your cabinets.

Crown moulding can be applied to the tops and bottoms of cabinets to create seamless transitions throughout your cabinetry. You can also incorporate intricate designs to the front of your cabinets to create dimension and interest on a cabinets flat surface.

This is a DIY project that will instantly add sophistication to your kitchen with features that won’t take up space. Here is your guide to installing crown moulding to your existing kitchen cabinets.

What You’ll Need:

  • Nail gun
  • Nails
  • Wood glue
  • Measuring tape
  • Miter saw
  • Pencil
  • Drywall hole patch
  • Crown moulding
  1. Make a plan. Before picking up materials from your local Lowe’s, you’ll want to make a plan for your design. You can check out our website and blog for plenty of inspiration!
  2. Measure your cabinets. You’ll be cutting wood boards and crown moulding to match both the sides and front of your cabinets, so you’ll want to carefully and accurately measure your cabinets with a measuring tape. At this time you will also want to measure and mark out your design with a pencil.
  3. Cut the crown moulding. After you’ve measured your moulding, measure out your crown moulding and make cuts at 45-degree angles so that your moulding will line up in corners.
  4. Attach the crown moulding. Once you have made your cuts, attach your moulding with wood glue and secure it with a nail gun.
  5. Don’t skip the final touches! Fill in any nail holes using the drywall hole patch, sand down any areas that need sanding, and lastly paint or stain your cabinets to match your design.
  6. Snap photos. Once you’ve completed your project, snap photos and share them on Instagram. Be sure to tag us at #finishedinspirations to be featured on our page!
