What You Can Learn From Our Designing Spaces Feature

Back in October we were honored and excited to be featured on our first TV debut on an episode of Designing Spaces on Lifetime TV! Designing Spaces travels across the country highlighting a variety of home improvement projects step by step for the DIYer.

The spotlight drew inspiration from a developer in Wilkesboro, North Carolina who was looking to upgrade new build townhouses. The developer added accent walls in the living room and architraves around the windows and doorways using products from ECMD’s very own East Coast Moulding

Our spotlight helped educate homeowners on how to add interior design-enhancing details to new or existing homes to accomplish a modern farmhouse or craftsman design look with our products like moulding, wainscotting, wall panels, and more.

Here are some of the biggest takeaways from our Designing Spaces Feature!

Wainscotting

Wainscotting is the perfect way to add accent to walls without bringing the accent all the way up the wall to give contrast to a pattern stock type of wall treatment with the flat of the actual wall. Wainscotting can be installed at waist level or even higher! Wainscotting was historically invented to protect walls from the backs of chairs. Wainscotting is flat on all sides and can be applied directly to any flat wall.

Shiplap

Shiplap is the overlapping of multiple panels. There are multiple applications of shiplap that can create various patterns depending on your design preferences. From different widths, shapes, finishes, assembly, and more – shiplap allows you to be as simple or dramatic as your want with your design. Shiplap can even be installed on your ceiling!

Stairs

Stairs can be elevated with stylish handrails, balusters, and newel posts. However, when it comes to initial stair installation – we strongly encourage you to leave that to the professionals! Various handrails, balusters, and newel posts are available with various installation methods to help fit any design preference.

Doorways and Windows

Just like framing artwork draws your eye to the piece of art, the same thing can be done for windows, doors, and doorways with the help of architraves! Architraves help to break up shadow lines that can distract the eye to create shadow lines that help to highlight the design elements.

Final Notes

It’s important to note that any wall treatments can be added to either a new build home or an existing home to enhance character and charm! These products are designed with the DIYer in mind for the perfect project to knock out over a weekend.
